What Does it Treat?
Canesten treats yeast infections, ringworm, athlete’s foot, thrush, and jock itch among other things. Fungal infections can take a long time to clear up, and it’s important that you follow your doctor’s instructions and/or the directions on the packaging. Even if you use the over-the-counter medication, it’s a good idea to contact your doctor if you think you have any of these infections.
Yeast Infections – yeast infections, which are also known as candidiasis, are infections that are caused by an overgrowth of yeast. This can lead to vaginal or penile yeast infections, diaper rash, skin infections, thrush, which is a yeast infection in the mouth and/or throat, and more. Canesten can be used to treat some of these types of infections, and you want to be sure to consult the packaging and/or your doctor when taking this drug.
Ringworm – despite the “worm” in the name, this is actually a fungal infection. This is also called dermatophytosis or tinea. It’s often transferred from domestic animals to humans, and it causes raised, round or ring-shaped, red rashes that itch. It’s quite contagious, and it can be transferred from skin to skin contact or contact with an infected person’s clothing or towel.
Jock Itch and Athlete’s Foot – Jock itch is tinea on and around the genitals, typically of men. It can cause redness and severe itching. It’s also called tinea cruris. Athlete’s foot is tinea on the feet. It’s also very itchy, and it can cause irritation, blisters, redness, cracked or dry and flaky skin. It’s also called tinea pedis.
